You don't need a username or password now The fix: Make the change temporary (without rebooting): Open a terminal sudo sysctl -w 0 1 sudo sysctl -w 0 Close and re-open Finder and see if the problem goes away. Look at the top of the window you're in now it will say, "Computers on your local network can access your computer at: computer.local" your will be slightly different, but you want the part in bold, you can change the name here if you wanted. In the right hand column, make sure it says "everyone - read/write" if you're worried about others on your network having access, change it to "read" that's like saying i have a flat tire, let me strip the engine on my car, and reassemble it.Īdd the folder (or drive) you want to share. Don't reformat the hard drive, that won't do anything to fix the problem, if the mac is reading the hard drive fine, then the format is fine.
